About Me

Hi! I’m Macy Kate Young, a sophomore from Allen, Texas. Ten years ago, I had my first riding lesson and never looked back. This one lesson developed into a lifelong passion for horses and led me to the sport that has taught me dedication, grit, and work ethic in and out of the arena. I currently compete in the 3’3-3’6 equitation, junior hunters, and derbies, and train under the guidance of Courtney and Scott Lenkart at South Haven Farm. My role as a working student allows me to ride a wide array of horses daily and develop my horsemanship by learning from top professionals. Along with being a working student, I also catch ride a variety of horses. As a versatile and adaptable rider, I ride each of these horses accordingly and produce top scores and placings. The experience of catch riding is unmatched and has shaped me into a well-rounded rider who takes feedback, learns from mistakes, and corrects them quickly. During my search to find the right horse, I have ridden a group of talented horses that have helped me achieve top placings at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), qualify for and participate in the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3 Medal Final 2023, and qualify for this same event in 2024.

Outside of the barn, I continue to excel in the classroom and my community. I have maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA as well as a 4.31 weighted GPA while taking 8 honors classes to challenge and expand my knowledge. I have been recognized with the Classroom Impact Award for my positivity and work ethic, and hold memberships in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). In addition, I have been a member of the Prosper ISD Superintendent’s Advisory Council, contributing to discussions on educational policies and community involvement within the district. I received the Legislative Advocacy and Outstanding Citizenship Award and was chosen to represent Prosper ISD at the state capitol, advocating for public education. My past involvement in the Future Farmers of America (FFA), through its public relations and poultry judging teams, has improved my public speaking skills and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I serve my community by volunteering at Manegait Therapeutic Riding Center and Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors, a local food pantry, where I volunteer weekly.

I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my equestrian journey at the collegiate level, where I can pursue my passion for horses and contribute to a team in the ring, in the classroom, and in my community.
